An Atomic Capacitance–Polarizability Model for the Calculation of Molecular Dipole Moments and Polarizabilities

چکیده
A classical interaction model for the calculation of molecular polarizabilities has been investigated. The model is described by atomic capacitancies, polarizabilities, and a parameter related to the size of the atom, where one set of parameters has been employed for each element. The model has been parameterized for the elements H, C, N, O, F, and Cl from quantum chemical calculations of the molecular polarizability and dipole moment for 161 molecules at the Hartree–Fock level. The atomic charge has been divided into a nuclear charge and an electronic contribution, which also allows for modeling the permanent molecular dipole moment. Results are presented for polyenes. Excellent agreement with quantum chemical calculations is obtained for the components of the polarizability perpendicular to the chain, but the results are less satisfying for the component along the chain. An inherent deficiency of using atomic capacitancies for large molecules and long chains is discussed. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Int J Quantum Chem 84: 513–522, 2001

Microscopic Parameters in the Excited State of Toluene and Some of Its Haloderavatives
The Ultraviolet-visible (UV) spectra of toluene, ortho-bromo and para-bromo toluene in different solvents have been studied. The electric dipole moments and polarizabilities in the molecular excited electronic states were determined. It was found that the electric dipole moments for the excited states (µ*) and the ground states (µ) of these compounds are equal, and the change in dipole moment i...

Ground and excited state dipoles and polarizabilities of the chromophores N-methyl-6-oxyquinolinium betaine (MQ) and coumarin 153 (C153) in solution have been evaluated using time-dependent density functional theory (TD-DFT). A method for determining the atomic polarizabilities has been developed; the molecular dipole has been decomposed into atomic charge transfer and polarizability terms, and...
متن کاملAccountability of Modern Adiabatic Connection-Based Double-Hybrids Constructed from Cubic and Quadratic Integrand Functions for Dipole Polarizabilities of Water Nanoclusters
In this work, we dissect the performance of two modern Perdew-Burke-Ernzerhof (PBE)-based double-hybrid (DH) density functionals to predict the isotropic and anisotropic polarizabilities of water nanoclusters (H2O)n [n = 2-6]. The considered models include the cubic integrand (CI) and quadratic integrand (QI) functions as well as the spin-opposite-scaled...

In this thesis, new methodology of computing properties aimed for multiple applications is developed. We use quantum mechanics to compute properties of molecules, and having these properties as a basis, we set up equations based on a classical reasoning. These approximations are shown to be quite good in many cases, and makes it possible to calculate linear and non-linear properties of large sy...
متن کاملEffect of elliptical deformation on molecular polarizabilities of model carbon nanotubes from atomic increments.
The interacting induced dipole polarization model implemented in our program POLAR is used for the calculation of the dipole-dipole polarizability alpha. The method is tested with single-wall carbon nanotube models as a function of nanotube radius and elliptical deformation. The results for polarizability follow the same trend as reference calculations performed with our version of the program ...
